Small Learning Communities
Welcome to Narbonne High School. 2006/2007 marks the completion of our three year plan to transform Narbonne High School into a new complex of small schools or Small Learning Communities. Completing this transformation will ensure that every student has the best opportunity to succeed and achieve. The focus of Relationships, Relevance and Rigor supports a student centered environment to enhance teaching and learning. Students in these Small Learning Communities are engaged in subject matter that interests them. Their attendance and graduation rates are higher. Students want to come to school to be part of their community and the opportunities it offers for them. This year we are excited to offer our students eight unique, academically enriched themed based communities. Established 1998 Focuses on math and science subjects. Required knowledge and skills include: academic foundations, communications, problem solving & critical thinking, information technology applications, systems, safety, health & environmental, leadership & teamwork, ethics & legal responsibilities, employability & career development, and technical skills.
Established 1998 The Health and Human Services is a "School with a School" at Narbonne High School. The Academy guides students to college and careers in the field of human service which covers a broad range of "helping hands". It focuses on human services including youth agencies, health and mental health clinics, family service programs, childcare and senior services. This gives the students the chance to learn valuable helping skills at school and than practice them in "real life" jobs while earning a paycheck.
Established 2003 The School of the Performing Arts (PA) at NHS is designed to meet the academic and artistic needs of gifted, talented or high achieving students. Students focus on one major area in the arts while being exposed to all facets of performing arts. We offer a rigorous college A-G curriculum and a comprehensive arts education program that inspires creativity, promotes thought and instills academic excellence. The Humanitas program has been incorporated in this small school to ensure that students have a strong, interdisciplinary humanities background.
Established Fall 2004 The School of Visual Arts and Humanities (SVAH) provides a rigorous curriculum while allowing students to develop their creativity. We provide majors in the areas on Fine Arts, Photography, and Media Arts The Humanitas program is utilized within our school to ensure that students have a strong, interdisciplinary humanities background.
