Videos

Videos may be used to supplement Standards-Based Instruction.  Teachers who wish to show a video to their classes need to follow the LAUSD policy in Bulletin 1270.  Films rated R may only be shown with the prior consent of the parents and the Principal.  The Principal must also approve unrated material.  Films rated PG and PG13 may be shown to high school students who are 13 or older, but these should have an instructional purpose.  Teachers should not show films to reward classes or give their students a break from instruction.

When showing films with adult themes or graphic violence, consider focusing on the segments that are pertinent to instruction and cutting out unnecessary material that might be questionable.

Click here to download a sample letter that may be used to obtain parent permission for movies with an “R” rating.
