Field Trips

All field trips must comply with the following:

  • All field trip forms must be filed the Assistant Principal Secondary Student Services (APSSS).
  • All field trips must be approved by the APSSS.
  • All paperwork and scheduling must be completed a minimum of four weeks prior to a local trip.  Out-of-area trips take longer to be approved.
  • If private party transportation is being used instead of a bus, special forms permitting privately licensed and insured drivers to transport students must be completed.

Trip Slips
Parent Consent for Field Trip slips (usually called “Trip Slips”), with necessary details, will be given to the teacher to distribute to students.  Parent approval signature is required.  The teacher also needs to distribute Request for Excuse from Class to students to get permission from teachers to miss classes on the day of the proposed trip.  When the teacher signs the consent, s/he agrees to allow the student to make up any missing work.  If a teacher feels that the student cannot afford to miss class and does not sign the slip the student may appeal the decision to the administrator in charge.  It is the responsibility of the sponsor to ensure that all slips have been properly signed.

Students who have lunch tickets are entitled to a sack lunch on the day of the field trip (if the trip extends into lunch).  The teacher in charge of the trip must collect the tickets from the students at least one (1) week in advance and give them to the Cafeteria Manager with a list of names.  The Cafeteria Manager will provide the required lunches on the morning of the trip.

When the students return the Parent Consent for Field Trip and the Request for Excuse from Class slips to the sponsoring teacher, the bottom half of the Parent Consent slips should be retained and taken by the teacher on the field trip.  The top half of the form and the Excuse from Class slips should be turned into the Attendance Office with a typed alphabetical list of all students cleared for participation.   Teachers should provide alternative placement and activities for students who are not cleared to attend the activity.

When the teacher returns from the field trip, the bottom portion of the Parent Consent slips should be turned in to the Attendance Office for filing along with a duplicate alphabetical list showing the actual attendance of the trip.
