SLC Lead Teacher/Director
The SLC Lead Teacher is an important member of the instructional team. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the SLC Lead Teacher provides instructional leadership for the teachers of his/her SLC s including, but not limited to, the following:
Professional Development
- Plan and organize SLC or grade level meetings
- Initiate and lead in-school workshops to improve instruction and develop teaching techniques.
- Serve as chief resource person regarding current trends, developments, and publications in the field of education.
- Visit classrooms to observe instruction performed by teachers of the SLC.
- Provide assistance to teachers with problems in class control and management and direct teachers with curricular issues to the appropriate department leaders.
- Encourage creative instructional experimentation.
- Direct teachers to observe peers; organize peer coaching when appropriate.
- Provide leadership in assisting general education and Special Education teachers to work collaboratively and effectively.
- Assist in supervising the instructional work of the SLC as it relates to student achievement (including the analysis of relevant data).
Allocation of Resources
- Identify and develop leadership potential within the SLC.
- Assist in orientation and supervision of substitutes and new teachers.
- Assist in the preparation of requisitions for allocations of supplies, equipment and other materials.
- Develop resources for the improvement of instruction.
Implementation and Development of the SLC Concept
- Develop and promote extracurricular activities related to the SLC interdisciplinary themes.
- Review and assess SLC interdisciplinary projects/assessments in relation to the total school education program.
- Attend SLC Council meetings.
- Participate in conferences and committees concerning SLC implementation.
- Organize parent meetings and orientations.
- Assist with the resolution of complaints for students, teachers, and parents.
- Develop brochures and other materials to recruit incoming students.
Development of the Master Calendar
- Assist in student programming procedures and in student placement in classes.
- Assure the optimum use of teachers’ competence and interests.
- Provide assistance to the Principal in the selection of teachers for the SLC (interviews).
- Assure the equitable distribution of workload.
- Assist in determination of building or facility needs of the department.
