Textbooks
Procedures
Each teacher completes two (2) copies of the “Teacher’s Textbook Order Cards” (one blue and one white) for each textbook (s)he requires. (These cards are available from the textbook room.) Upon completion of the cards the teacher has her/his SLC Lead Teacher approve the sign the card thus approving the use of the textbook and the quantity requested. The teacher then gives the white card to the textbook clerk and receives the requested books. It is the teacher’s responsibility to ensure that each student has the appropriate textbook.
It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that textbooks are covered at all times. Adhesive book covers should not be used, nor should book covers be taped to the inside of the textbook.
The Textbook Room
The Textbook Room is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Textbook Room is located next to the library.
Issuing Textbooks to Students
- Before a textbook can be issued to a student, two copies of the “Student Textbook Receipt” card (one white and one blue) must be completed by the student for each book (s)he is to receive.
- When the student receives the book the books number (the bar code number for newer books, the stamped number for older books) is recorded on each of the student book cards.
- The white student book cards are sent to the bookroom. The teacher retains the blue student book cards during the course of the semester.
- Check books periodically to ensure that they remain covered and damage-free the entire semester. Do not allow book covers to be taped to the book.
- If a student has lost his/her textbook, have the student check with the textbook clerk to see if the book has been returned to the Textbook Room. If the lost book is not found, it must be paid for before a new copy can be issued.
- The Finance Manager handles the collection of money for lost or damaged books.
Returning Books
At the end of the semester the teacher collects the book(s) issued to each student. The teacher checks to see that:
- The book(s) the student is turning in is the book(s) that were issued
- The book(s) being returned are in good condition and can be reissued to other students.
If both of these conditions are met, the teacher returns the blue student book card to the student as evidence that the student returned his/her book.
If the student does not return his/her book, or the book is damaged and cannot be reissued the teacher does not return the blue book card to the student. Instead these cards are given to the bookroom clerk. The bookroom clerk will use these returned blue cards to enter those students’ names on the Stop Clearance list.
Note: If a student returns a book other than the one s(he) checked out that book is retained by the teacher. The blue textbook card for the book that was checked out is not given to the student. It is given to the textbook clerk as if no book was returned.
Stop Clearance Records
Students whose names still appear on the Stop Clearance list at the close of the semester in June will have to clear their records prior to graduation if seniors or prior to registration for fall semester for continuing students.
