Attendance Incentive Program
Narbonne High School
Attendance Incentive Program

The purpose of the Attendance Incentive Program (AIP) is to improve student
achievement by rewarding regular attendance and encouraging participation in
school activities. In this way we hope to engender habits of good attendance,
good work habits and good citizenship and thereby increase our students’
aptitude for success.

The proposal for this program was first made during LEARN Committee meetings
in the 1997-1998 school year. It was originally made to stop the problem of
increased absenteeism in the spring semester of the senior year and was called
the Senior Contract; it was subsequently expanded to include all four classes.

In 2007 a subcommittee of the Narbonne Leadership Council reviewed the
program. This subcommittee was composed of faculty members, administrators,
students, and parents. This committee, and subsequently the entire Leadership
Council, decided that the Attendance Incentive Program was still required.

To remain “AIP Eligible” a student must have five (5) or fewer full day absences
(i.e., 30 period absences for a student with 6 classes per day) in the current
semester AND fewer than five (5) total U’s on the last progress report. (Note: A
student will become “AIP Ineligible” if he/she exceeds EITHER of these two
criteria.)

The program is based on rewards for “AIP Eligible” students and on withholding
privileges from “AIP Ineligible” students. “AIP Ineligible” students cannot attend
reward or class-level activities. (For students in the second semester of their
senior year this includes both their prom and their graduation ceremony.)

Certain absences, such as long-term/chronic illnesses, can be waived for AIP
purposes upon appeal. (Click her to see more information on those absences
that can be appealed.
)

AIP appeal forms are located in the Attendance Office. They are to be
completed and returned to the Attendance Office with all of the required
documentation. After receipt of the completed appeal form and required
documentation the AIP Appeal Committee will review the appeal and make a
decision on whether to grant the appeal or not. The student will be notified as
soon as the AIP Appeal Committee makes a decision.
